The climax of the new album All the Roadrunning by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris is this poignant song, inspired by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Knopfler wrote the song after reading the empathic article Only Love and Then Oblivion which the author Ian McEwan published in the UK’s Guardian newspaper four days after the attacks. Out of such ugliness comes such beauty.
