Here’s a rude but funny jab at the disappointing Windoze Vista. I’m staying away from the thing as long as possible. Thankfully my home desktop XP machine is still quite capable and the school computers are not updated very often! I hope that Microsoft gets its act together and offers a rebuilt and slimmer Windows 7, but I have no reason to expect that will happen.
But my Averatec laptop that runs Windows XP has a very slow hard disk and lousy batteries, so I expect that by the end of 2009 I’ll have replaced it with a Macbook or Macbook Pro or some other Apple laptop. I want a more reliable and less annoying operating system and I plan to use Boot Camp/Parallels/VMWare to run Windows XP on the Mac when needed.
Yeah, I beta-tested Vista and got attached enough to the interface that I still run it on my laptop. It’s the first time since Win95 that I haven’t re-themed the OS to look like, well, Win95. They finally brought forward some compelling user-interface improvements, instead of just trying to make the OS look like a poorly-designed webpage.
Or maybe it’s because I enjoy torturing myself with slow antique computers (like the Amiga I’m rebuilding this weekend, circa 1988), and Vista makes this 2GHz Celeron feel slower than my old P-233 laptop.
Regardless, I don’t recommend it to anyone – at least, not anyone I like and/or might have to provide tech support for…
